Thirteen Women Who Shaped the History of Art

WIH Artists introduces thirteen remarkable women whose creativity helped shape the visual language of their times. Spanning more than four centuries, the collection follows artists from Renaissance courts and Baroque studios to the modern movements of Paris, Berlin, Mexico City, and beyond. Each artist is represented in the style and medium in which she worked.

Rather than presenting a traditional art history survey, each artist is approached through the traces she left behind. Historical moments, artistic communities, mentors, patrons, and fellow artists appear throughout the illustrations, creating scenes inspired by documented lives while remaining thoughtful interpretations rather than literal reconstructions.  

About the Book:

A collection of thirteen influential women artists from the Renaissance through the twentieth century, presented through original illustrations and biographies that introduce each woman through her work, life, and lasting artistic legacy. Featured artists include Sofonisba Anguissola, Lavinia Fontana, Artemisia Gentileschi, Gwen John, Marie Laurencin, Gabriele Münter, Alice Bailly, Sonia Delaunay, María Blanchard, Marie “Marevna” Vorobieff, Frida Kahlo, Meta Vaux Warrick Fuller, and Paula Modersohn-Becker.
